The work of Assist. Prof. Emine Hoşoğlu Doğan, Head of the Department of Comparative Literature at our university, has been published in the book “Cinsiyet Nöbeti: Cumhuriyet'in Yüzüncü Yılında Toplumsal Cinsiyet Tartışmaları” [Gender Watch: Gender Debates in the Centennial of the Republic], released by Vadi Publishing.

The study of Assist. Prof. Emine Hoşoğlu Doğan, Head of the Department of Comparative Literature at Ibn Haldun University, entitled “Geç Osmanlı Döneminde ‘Yeni Kadın’ Söylemi ve Müslüman Kadın Yazarlar” [The Discourse of the ‘New Woman’ in the Late Ottoman Period and Muslim Women Writers], has been published in the book “Cinsiyet Nöbeti: Cumhuriyet'in Yüzüncü Yılında Toplumsal Cinsiyet Tartışmaları” [Gender Watch: Gender Debates in the Centennial of the Republic] released by Vadi Publishing. The study examines the constructions of the ideal “new woman” identity that emerged in public discourse directed at urban Ottoman Muslims in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Assist. Prof. Doğan, sheds light on how these discourses influenced women’s social visibility and spaces of presence, while also discussing the ways in which literate Ottoman Muslim women engaged with and contributed to these debates.

By addressing the intersection of gender, identity, and literary culture in the late Ottoman period, this research provides an important contribution to the fields of women’s studies, gender research, and Ottoman literature.

We congratulate our professor and wish her continued success.
